SPIC MACAY PROGRAMME IN THE ASIAN SCHOOL, DEHRADUN

To promote cultural awareness among students, The Asian School, Dehradun under the aegis of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), organized a lecture-cum-demonstration on Tuesday, 26th September 2023 in the White House Court. 

A Manipuri stage presented by Ace Artist Khumukcham Romendro Singh accompanied by other prominent cultural luminaries performed Dhumal and Huiyen Lallong forms of Manipuri dance and left the students of classes VI to XII spellbound with their magnificent performance. The programme commenced with the presentation of bouquets to the eminent artists followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The distinguished guest artists were then felicitated with a token of appreciation. The Pung Cholam and Thang Ta performances took the students through the journey of understanding the nuances of the Manipuri dance form by giving valuable insights. They spoke about how the language of dance transcends all boundaries. Their performances along with their team of musicians and accompanists comprised of Yengkhom Dharmaraj Singh, Mayanglambam Harichandra Singh, Sanasam Rojar Singh,  Amom Rojit Singh, Okhram Thonglenngamba Meetei, Haobijam Prithingamba and Nongmeikapam Challenger Meetei. They left the audience intrigued. 

At the end of the programme the artists took up questions put up by the students. The session was not only enjoyable but also informative. It was an unforgettable life experience for the students as they were exposed to the rich cultural heritage of India.
