Light is the symbol of truth; give light, the darkness will disappear of itself — with this in mind hundreds of earthen lamps are lit in the White House Court of The Asian School, Dehradun every year on the occasion of “Deepotsav” – the annual custom of showering blessings on the Asianites who are looking forward to the end of the school life and a new beginning.
The solemn occasion which was held on 04 February 2023 was observed by lighting of hundreds of earthen lamps and presenting souvenirs, tying of ‘Kalavas’ and applying of
‘Tilak’ on the foreheads of 288 students, who will appear for the CBSE class XII Exams in March 2023.
The auspicious ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Ruchi Pradhan Datta and the dignitaries present on the occasion. As per tradition, the blessing ceremony saw the recounting of experiences during their stay at The Asian School by a number of outgoing students, who delivered their speeches and took everyone down memory lane. The students shared their memorable and joyous moments, besides the pranks within the classrooms.
On the occasion the token exchange of earthen lamps took place which was symbolic of conferring the honour, power and responsibility on the new prefect body by the old one.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal, Mrs. Ruchi Pradhan Datta, advised the students to understand the importance of hard work and thorough preparation and to see themselves as ambassadors of their Alma Mater and bring glory to their school. The Principal blessed the children and wished them luck.
The programme was attended by Director, Mr. Gagan Jyot Juneja, Head Senior School, Mr. Mukesh Nangia,Head Middle School,Ms. Prachi Mehrotra, Deputy Head Junior School, Ms. Surbhi Narula and Dean of Activity Ms. Shweta Matta and the entire teaching staff.
The programme concluded with inspirational songs by the Asianites and the staff for
the outgoing batch. The programme was jointly compared by Head Girl Ms Dishita Pandey and Head Boy Master Shashwat Gupta.
